The onionsat story
Our team's first satellite was a 3 deciliter soda can-sized CanSat satellite, built for the 2024 national CanSat competition.
CanSat, or rather, constant learning.
Building a satellite is cool, but building satellites is not just for nerds. The main target group for the competition is STEM interested students, but at the same time, every helping hand is needed! We managed to make a satellite without any previous technical experience. From soldering to marketing and other soft skills, all the skills needed for a competitive project could be learned in the competition.
The competition
Our team was selected as one of the top ten teams, so our CanSat was launched by the BME Suborbitals' rocket named Athena. Our satellite reached an altitude of 1 km, successfully completing its mission. And our work won our team the Special Award for Technology.

About the competition
Building a space device is a multifaceted yet very exciting task. ""Our first satellite Hungarian Astronautical Society organised by the 2024 CanSat for competition we built it"". Ten teams (including our team) with the best project reports have their satellite launched by a rocket made by the BME Suborbitals rocket building team to a altitude of about one and a half kilometers.
Our satellite
In the development of our CanSat, we have focused on endurance. We succeeded in creating a satellite that far exceeded the original safety and durability requirements. Our satellite can be used in metrological areas, because it can examine tidal currents. [extra textbox]
